Terms of service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of pedalchronicle.com and app.pedalchronicle.com (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. About Pedal Chronicle

Pedal Chronicle is an online service that tracks the wear on bicycle components using your connected Strava activity, adjusted for riding conditions such as weather and surface, and can email you alerts about your components. The Service is operated by Marcus Le Count (ABN 76 178 211 852), trading as Pedal Chronicle, based in Western Australia, Australia ("we", "us").

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service.

You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account.

3. Accounts

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the security of your account
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • Keeping your contact details up to date

We use third-party authentication services (Amazon Cognito). We are not responsible for breaches caused by your own account security practices.

4. Strava integration

By connecting Strava, you authorise Pedal Chronicle to:

  • Receive your new activities as they're uploaded
  • Access each ride's name, date, distance, sport type, elevation gain and gear
  • Use a ride's start location and time to look up its weather (the location is not stored)
  • Access your athlete and gear identifiers

We use this data only to provide the Service: tracking component wear, showing your rides, and sending the alerts you've chosen. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Pedal Chronicle is not developed or endorsed by Strava, and is not responsible for Strava outages, API changes or service disruptions.

5. Alert emails

If you have alerts switched on, we may email you about your components, your riding and problems syncing your rides. You can switch any alert type off in Settings, or with the unsubscribe link in any alert email.

6. Free trial, subscriptions and payments

Free trial. Each account gets a free 30-day trial, starting the first time you sign in. No payment details are needed for the trial, and it doesn't turn into a paid subscription unless you choose to subscribe.

Subscriptions. After the trial, using the Service needs a paid subscription, monthly or yearly, at the prices on our pricing page. The price, including any tax, is shown before you pay.

Payments. Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service enquiries and handles returns. Paddle's own buyer terms apply to your purchase.

Renewal and cancellation. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until cancelled. You can cancel anytime from Settings; you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for, and you won't be charged again.

If your trial or subscription ends. The app is locked and alert emails stop. Rides from Strava keep syncing for 10 days afterwards, so nothing is missed if you subscribe in that time; after that, syncing stops. Your data is kept until you delete your account, and subscribing again restores access.

Price changes. If we change the price of your plan, we'll email you at least 30 days before it applies to your next renewal, so you can cancel first if you prefer.

Refunds. Because of the free trial, payments aren't refundable, except where the law requires or a payment was made in error. See our refund and cancellation policy. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law or other consumer law that applies to you.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Abuse or interfere with the Service
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access
  • Reverse engineer or exploit the Service
  • Use the Service for unlawful purposes

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

8. Data and ownership

You retain ownership of your data.

By using the Service, you grant us permission to store and process your data to provide the Service. We do not claim ownership of your Strava data or cycling data.

9. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uptime.

We may modify features, suspend services, or discontinue parts of the Service.

We are not liable for service interruptions.

10. Disclaimer

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available".

Component wear, weather-based adjustments and replacement dates are estimates. Pedal Chronicle does not guarantee the accuracy of distance tracking, weather data, wear predictions or outcomes.

You remain responsible for inspecting and maintaining your bicycle safely.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for data loss, service outages, inaccurate usage calculations, or damages arising from reliance on the Service.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service, and delete your account, at any time.

We may suspend or terminate accounts for breach of these Terms, abuse, or security risks.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia, Australia.
