Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about tracking your bike components with Pedal Chronicle.

What is Pedal Chronicle?

Pedal Chronicle is a web app for cyclists that automatically tracks wear on your bike components by syncing with Strava. It tells you when each part — chain, cassette, tyres, brake pads, cables — is due for replacement, based on your actual riding distance.

How does it sync with Strava?

You connect your Strava account once, and Pedal Chronicle automatically receives your rides in real time. Every ride you log on Strava updates your component distances — no manual entry needed.

What components can I track?

You can track any component: chain, cassette, tyres, brake pads, brake cables, gear cables, bar tape, and more. You set a lifespan target for each one, and Pedal Chronicle shows how much life is left based on distance ridden.

How do I know when to replace my chain?

Pedal Chronicle tracks the kilometres on your chain and warns you as it approaches your replacement threshold — typically 2,000–3,000 km for road chains, though this varies by brand and conditions. You set the target yourself and get a colour-coded warning as it approaches the limit.

Does it work for mountain bikes as well as road bikes?

Yes. You can add as many bikes as you like — road, mountain, gravel, commuter — and track components on each one independently. Lifespan targets are fully customisable, so you can set shorter intervals for MTB components that wear faster.

Can I track components I swap between bikes, like wheelsets?

Yes. You can pause mileage tracking on any component and resume it later. This is ideal for parts you rotate between bikes — like race wheelsets — so mileage only accumulates when they're actually in use.
